An About Me page? It's more likely than u think.

Hi! Again! I'm a millenial that grew up with windows 98. I've always putzed around with computers and tech, always wanting to know how things work and why. I'll go into detail about that later, though. This section is the quick view, the elevator pitch on why I'm cool and we could definitely be friends (or at least neocities mutuals).

So, I fancy myself as a creative. This website naturally has a handful of html/js experiments, as well as links to the art I want to be visible publicly. For example, I probably won't post the acrylic painting I did recently. That said, I think the most recent work was on this website and the tabletop rpg I posted here. I find I only have the patience for one art medium for a couple days before I move to the next thing. It's really tough to focus on things I don't already have inspiration for. I've been trying to rewrite the rules for a Tale of Pirates but I just can't sit down to do it.

Right. My vibe. Um, my friends think I'm sweet, though that probably doesn't count for much here. I love being clever and precise with my words, and I do my best to keep a pun chain going. Actually, a major thing I've put in my dating/equivalent profiles is my love of like goofy thought experiments. Like would your rather find a fresh gumball under your pillow 10 seconds after you decide to wake up, OR would you rather be able to summon licorice by miming pulling it out of your nostral. Like the former, very straightforward and dependable. The latter, I simply like licorice more and it's a neat party trick, albiet for a very limited audience.

Hm I bet I should put the more specific details into a section so this doesn't ramble for too long.

Video Games

So I have a really particular relationship with video games. On the one hand, I literally went to college for Video Game Design. On the other, I've never been more put off by games?

Let me clarify. So I've always been obssessed with how things work, natch. I've been trying to make game-like scenarios and was really interested in game-feel from a young age at an intuitive level. I've always wanted to make things too. Video Games, especially flash games were a big part of my childhood, given old PC's with dial up internet and money not devoted to such frivolity. I actually got lucky because my mom would sometimes take us to her workplace so we could play flash games.

Being able to get into game design later in life, especially with the ultimate realization of how in depth Psychologically a game is, and how video games are a powerful medium for art, I've truly become obnoxious. I've watched some GDC videos and whatever, but there's some really good content around like User Experience design, and some other like video essays and such. Like while I've made over two dozen games, they're mostly not that level of making something truly mind altering. I have a number of game ideas I want to make/see made that focus on like the relationship between the player and the game (for context, things like Doki Doki Literature Club or Undertale, though I have a soft spot for Eternal Darkness as a second-hand thing).

I think some of the put-off part, is I don't often appreciate the challenge or like monotony to actually playing some games? To say nothing of how, I've really become hyper sensative to how I always grew up just with games as my "hobby" and defaulting to it. And I've recently been trying to push to things that are like unique and diverse? Like if you get into a conversation with someone and they're like, hey I saw this band live, and you're like oh um, I played another 4 rounds of fortnite. It's just not the same. You can live a life where you do both but I'm just swinging the pendulum a bit so I feel comfortable doing both.

I do have a list of games I love (re)playing.

Actually sidebar, I adore Team Fortress 2. Between the style, the approachability and the specific design principles it follows, I'm still crazy about it on multiple levels. It's the only game I have over 1k+ hours in play time. I did a whole spreadsheet sorting out the base damage of the main gun, the shotgun, does 60 damage at mid range, with classes ranging between 125 and 300 health. Thus unless you're specifically close (damage ramp up/drop off), it takes 3 hits (hit, pump, hit, pump, hit) minimum. A slower time-to-kill, but important for a class like the engineer who has the shotgun main gun and a pistol side arm for a 1-1-2 (more important if they're fleeing in fairness). The shotgun being slow but punchy is a completely different balance than a base assault rifle, and it's immensely compelling.

Side- sidebar, it was really funny to me how many people felt that Overwatch (1) characters moved at different speeds because of the animations, because I could feel the difference between 100% speed and 110% (or whatever the speedbuff characters use).

Art

I started drawing with pencil off-and-on since grade ...5? 6? As much as I love those 'see how your art changed over the years' challenges, I'm not sure how much better I am lmfao. I care more about posture and composition, at the very least. I actually have been using Inkscape because it's free and allows a lot of revision digitally.

I actually used Photoshop I wanna say 5? a fair bit back in the day, but these days I've been using GIMP. I use it a lot oddly enough but it's probably not the best out there.

I really got into doing Perler bead art a while back! In college someone brought in some beads and I made a pixel Shy Guy and a SMW Fire Flower. I've since made a dozen more, though many are vtuber designs. I really got into vtubers at the start of the panini in 2020, but things have settled a bit since. I haven't touched the beads since I moved, other than to mount the specific pieces on my walls.

Like I said I started out with painting. I have a few designs I want to try out, so i defiinitely spent more in supplies than necessary but I want to try it. I made some neat water color pieces for school and actually, I have a huge binder full of my oldest work that I want to compile digitally. I don't love the mess that painting can make, so it's always been something I don't want to get into.

Oh no another drawing section. Well yeah, I do make quick mockup drawings sometimes, for like world building concepts or whatever. I did learn that being perverted about something is an excellent way to get better at art, so I do have a number of drawings that art like a mock iteration of something I found on DeviantArt. And I'm proud of what I've done mostly because I will not show people these pieces (for both originality and because um nsfw (>////<) )

I've done clay art for one class in high school - it was a shark jar. Really fun, and I want to try out a pottery wheel at some point.

Tabletop Role-Playing Games

I love these f'ing thangs. While I'm very familiar with D&D 5e at this point, and I've played a bit of it and Pathfinder 1e, but my passion is for Powered by the Apocalypse and even more experimental ones than that.

Naturally, part of this is an interest in game design.

PBTA - For you game designers, you have to check out MASKS, after you check out a base level one like Monster of the Week (my fav). Having stats that constantly move around really nails the "fictional positioning" thing that PbtA is trying to get at. It bypasses the whole "i'm trying to be smart so I'm going to roll Smart. Oh no i crit failed I guess i just don't know." by saying of course you're smart of course you're strong - but are you confident? Are you relatable? Are you rattled?

FitD - Once I got used to Fictional Positioning and clocks I can't get the design strategy out of my head.

All outta Bubblegum, Supernormal - smaller games but the design of push characters to be one thing by default and the opposite if they're lucky is extremely tight despite different implementations.

You know the drill. Talk to me:

Misc ie WIP from old page

I was working on a discord bot that's a remake of my old once, that's mostly good for sending quotes from Code Ment and such.

I watch a lot of video gameplay moreso than even playing - i'm a video game designer by education and I have Opinions and Games I wish I could make. Though it's hard enough just to write them down. Honestly, the only reason i can do things is I suddenly get really passionate about something arbitrary like a funny meme in twitch chat and I spend the night working on it. i sometimes roll my eyes when someone complains about a video game or says it'd be better if something was changed because i'm the one with the game design bachelor lol. I did design consulting on two games and they both died on the vine Q_Q.

Slowly is a cool app to acquire penpals but no one has really kept up the conversation for more than a couple letters :(

I'm a big fan of vtubers especially indie ones, i stay up late because i worry this is the only time i can be productive, i've never seriously written in a diary, i've tried writing but i don't think i can be mean enough to the characters to make a compelling story. i used to love really modern looking houses and minimalist ui but i've started to wonder if it's too artificial and more just a reminder that everything we love is getting sanded off until there's nothing we can grab onto.

History

Early life

I was born at a young age.

I remember getting a big civic set of like police and fire trucks toys when I was real small but not much interesting about that.

I remember a really cute space ship that had like 7 removable parts - the bottom with wheels, the main body, the black thruster, a white plate to cover the thruster, two pad things, and the top fin.

Big fan of Jayjay the jet plane when i was baby.

I remember my dad putting up space wallpaper in my room :) I had a bunk bed and slept in the top. The wood for the bed guard was really soft so i used to scrape it with my teeth.

My first Lego set was a lil backhoe. I think the third one was a big arctic set with a bear and a frozen yellow scorpion.

I still have my Matchbox submarine with like over a dozen combinable parts.

Childhood

I used to have a bunch of K'nex. Used to have a motorbike man with a green Power Core.

We had a singlular bionicle and that was when they used Move Along by the All American Rejects for their commericials.

I used to have a collection of 100 some-odd Hot Wheels cars with my little sister. We had a bunch of sets like an oil changer (you could press down on the lever to make sparks) and such, also a ton of mats. I tried to construct an end-to-end track for all the cars to travel down, but my little sister would get so desperately bored by the time we hit 85%.

I took apart a remote controlled airplane and my yellow walkman for some reason.

Flash Games!

Flash Game sites: PBSKids, Veggietales, Candystand, Miniclip, Family, Nitrome, AddictingGames, Armor Games, Andkon

My watch habits of PBS Kids or Veggietales directly affected my initial flash game usage, going to their respective kids sites to play games. PBS didn't have great games but there's a ton of VT games I could still quote.

"One of the StuffMart salesmen fell asleep too close to the aquatics gear! Help him navigate the watery maze and find all the hidden treasure! But watch out!"

"It's TIME for DONUT HOCKEY. Move your mouse to block the donut and bounce it into JIMMY'S NET."

Games I remember from veggietales:
  • squirt ducks with water to sink them
  • 3 day march around jerricho dodging slushies
  • the music memory game
  • Veggie tetris
  • Donut hockey
  • The Sea caves one
  • The xmas and cotton candy pacman clones
  • 3 alchemist platformers
  • the interactive map of bumblyburg
  • larry boy vs angry eyebrows kinda astroids game
  • Larry boy vs rumor weed/fib one
  • the falling newspaper game
  • Larry's Lab
  • bounce junior on the bed to hid frankencelery with paper
  • Space corn - fly around and eat popcorn
  • the alphabet soup spelling game

PBS had less of an impact. I remember a cyberchase game that cost in-game currency to transfer between hubs and it seemed like the math would be too complex for me lol

Games I remember from Candystand:
  • Candystand Baseball - essentially SNES baseball
  • There was a pineapple lifesavers adventure game that was like essentially a boy and his blob
  • Candystand minigolf
  • Polarity
  • Slipstream
Games I remember from Nitrome:
  • skywire
  • Mutiny
  • Dirk Valentine
  • Headcase
  • Parasite?
  • Toxic! I was obsessed with the robot cuttlefish bots
  • Final Ninja
  • Fat Cat
  • ohh the Ice cutting game was good
  • Magic Touch
Games I remember from JMTB02:
  • This is the Only Level
  • Achievement Unlocked
  • Loot the Game
  • Obey the Game
  • 4 Second Firestorm
  • Uhh the Big Combo game with turtles
  • Exit Path which was ok

Other Web things

myspace, msn/hotmail (always nudging my mom), yahoo, smackjeeves, hivespot, stumbleupon, picaphobia

I got an msn, mostly bothering my mom while she was at work. My sister was big into having song lyrics as statuses but i must admit i had neither friends nor songs to choose from

I got into making my own myspace and it was lame as hell. Mostly didn't have that much to say, it was a fun cyber green. I learned i could embed flash games from miniclip or nitrome and i did.
